This is a true Alaskan hike since it includes a creek crossing, bush: whacking, and trail/route finding. It begins at the Lodge and crosses Moose Creek via the bridge. From the base of Alpha, the ascent begins immediately through the lowland tundra. Depending on the route, some contouring maybe necessary and the ascent is steep regardless of the route chosen. Views of the Kantishna valley and the north follow your climb up the ridge. Alpine tundra makes for nice walking during the last couple hundred feet and the views of the Alaska Range can be spectacular. Often times the route descends the backside and crosses through Moose Creek near the airstrip. Approximately 1900 feet in elevation gain and about 5 miles in hiking distance can be expected. This hike will return to the Lodge by approximately 3:00 PM.
