This is a wonderful hike to get acquainted with Alaska's spongy arctic tundra. We start near North Face Lodge. The first two miles (and last two) are along a mostly level shelf of spongy tundra overlooking Moose Creek. After a little bush scramble through drainage we will start the ascent to the top. The spongy arctic tundra will gradually give way to moist tundra, and finally, rocky alpine tundra. The summit has a great view of the Alaska Range and the plains in front of it. Don't be fooled, even though the overall elevation gain in less than some challenging hikes only 1600 feet, the soft tundra makes for a challenging hike. The total distance is about 5 miles. We usually return to the Lodge about 3:00 PM.
