Walking on arctic tundra is like walking on a huge uneven sponge. The tundra can be exhilarating, and at times, a bit challenging. This hike begins at the boundary between the Park Preserve and Wilderness, walks through the tundra (sometimes on, sometimes off a trail) and concentrates on the plants and uniqueness of the treeless surface. This hike is short in, distance (a mile or so), but long in experience. We will return to the Lodge around 1 :00 PM.
